Integrating Drone Photogrammetry into Traditional Ground Survey

Drone photogrammetry has become a valuable complement to traditional total-station survey, particularly across large, open corridors where ground access is difficult. However, photogrammetric outputs are only as accurate as the ground control points (GCPs) used to georeference them.
Our field teams place GCPs at consistent intervals using RTK-GPS before every drone flight, ensuring the resulting orthomosaic and digital elevation model align precisely with ground-truthed survey data. This hybrid approach has cut field time on recent rural road mapping projects by roughly a third without compromising accuracy.
